The Arkley Center is pleased to be the new home of Eureka Symphony.
Hello and welcome to the 2009-2010 season of the Eureka Symphony. Whether you are passionate about classical music or have a casual interest in the works of the famous composers of the last 400 years, Carol Jacobson, our Music Director, has another exciting season of orchestral music prepared for all of us. Click on the Program Calendar for concert details.
We begin the season with Ryan MacEvoy-McCullough playing Rachmaninoff. Ryan grew up in Humboldt County, began playing the piano at age 5, and is currently studying at the Colburn School for the Performing Arts in Los Angeles. He has captured awards for his playing throughout the United States and Europe. You don’t want to miss his appearance with the Eureka Symphony in October.
In February, we will be bringing you the 3 winners of our young musician auditions. You will be impressed with the musical talent that is resident in our young people. The Eureka Symphony actively supports young musicians who express an interest in classical music, and we are very proud of all the contestants who audition to perform with our orchestra.
March and May will feature a guest violinist and a guest cellist along with music from composers that include Tchaikovsky and Aaron Copland. We think that you will enjoy every performance and will agree that the Arkley Center for the Performing Arts is a wonderful venue for orchestral music.
One of the comments that we frequently hear from new audience members is “I am so impressed that a small community has such a wonderful community orchestra”. The secrets to our success include a very dedicated group of musicians, an incredible conductor, a great venue, and the support of our community. To those of you who have faithfully supported the Eureka Symphony, we say “Thank you”. To those of you who are new to our performances, we encourage you to join with us in supporting the arts in Humboldt County.
You can support the Eureka Symphony by purchasing season tickets. All seats are reserved beginning this season. By purchasing tickets early you can have a choice of seats for each performance and receive a discount off of the price of tickets purchased separately. We are confident that you will enjoy our concerts, and would very much appreciate it if you would consider making a donation to our organization. You can be part of the group that brings the gift of music to our community and fosters a love of music in our young people. Additionally, volunteers are always welcome to join us. Drop us a line if you are interested (click on “Contact Us” on our website, www.eurekasymphony.com).
So… make a date with a friend, dress up a little, have an early supper at your favorite bistro, and then come and join us for an evening of great music.
Yours in the classical tradition,
Steve Cole, Board President
